11th August 2022 in Leeds

It was indeed a busy day for Chrissie, Christine and Steve.
The quilts were welcomed to Space 2 in Leeds with a private view for community members and fellow organisations interested in the arts. Chrissie and Christine got to enjoy talking to the guests and reported that the general reaction was “we’re blown away!” which is nice to hear. already there is some interest in bringing the collection back to Leeds in 2023. It was great to have our team members present to answer questions and they were joined by members of Leeds Keep Our NHS Public.
The exhibition is now open for viewing until the end of September.

THE BUILD UP
Earlier in the day (before the hobnobbing) Chrissie & Christine installed the West Yorkshire quilts in the Piazza Shopping Centre in Huddersfield. An empty Thorton’s shop now has a new look with a total of 5 of quilts displayed in the window for passers by to see.
One shopper stopped to tell the team that she had been lucky enough to see the quilts in Ilfracombe when she was visting her daughter. She was thrilled to see them in Yorkshire.

Whilst the West Yorkshire team were putting up the quilts, Steve was on Radio Leeds chatting to Gail Lofthouse, the morning show host for BBC Radio Leeds. Here is the interview.
And we’re still ongoing
Dont forget you can join the project this Autumn. We are beginning a new series of online meetings where we can chat about what is going on around us, the news, and how to turn our discussions into incredible and powerful images on more quilts. We know from the hundred of comments made by visitors that Threads Of Survival has power and a long lasting emotional impace on people.
